As far as marketing goes, it seems like we all dedicate at least 90% of our resources ensuring our digital and online marketing efforts are covered (at least as much as we have the bandwidth to handle, right?) And we do this because our prospects and customers ARE online and every business to a certain extent needs an online presence to be found these days...

and read online reviews and posts before buying a product or service? 

Like it or not, people seek reassurance before purchasing anything. They are online researching every product or service before pulling the trigger (both low ticket and high ticket purchases). Just think about what you do before you purchase anything these days… 

In fact, in a recent study, it was reported that 91% of 18-34 year olds trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations and 93% of consumers say that online reviews influenced their purchase decisions. 

Your prospects and clients ARE searching for you, your product, or service online before making the purchase decision. If you don’t have a compelling web or social presence (at a minimum), add that to the top of your list, as those are now non-negotiables in the business commerce world. But a mere presence is just one aspect of a much bigger picture...

I’ve run many businesses, and have consulted with even more over the years, and one thing holds true for every single business out there… the necessity for qualified leads and ideal customers. Another reason why target marketing is a “non-negotiable” for EVERY business.

In the game of business, the best marketer wins (yes, even over those with the best product or service). If a business can’t attract the attention of their target audience, even if they have the best product or service out there, their business already has one foot in the grave. 

The other thing I know with 100% certainty is the only constant in business is change. The ever-evolving need to be newer, better and different couldn’t be more imperative in today’s business climate.

First and foremost, PR has the uncanny ability to produce immediate results. If done right, not only is it extremely cost effective (PR can help you reach your marketing objectives at a fraction of the cost of paid advertising/media), it reaps invaluable rewards of instantaneous credibility, massive leveragability and it attracts the RIGHT target audience into your pipeline.

CREDIBILITY= THE BEST CURRENCY

One of the most important words that should have jumped out at you in that list is “Credible”. Why? Because credibility in any business is your highest and best currency. 

Credibility builds trust. Trust builds rapport. 
Rapport builds loyal clients. 

I hope we can agree that your target audience is more likely to do business with you (or your company) if they trust you (or your company), right? 

So why not use these effective strategies to capture the attention and trust of your target audience? 

Without getting into the nitty-gritty, effective PR puts you on the map, and makes it possible for internal and external audiences to be aware of who you are, what exactly you do, and how you do it.  
Once your audience knows you exist, and are aware of your presence (and when you offer a sought-after product or service), people will gravitate to you. THEY will seek YOU out. 

The Power of Third-Party Social Proof

A successful PR campaign builds instant credibility and notoriety of your company by generating third-party social proof. Third-party social proof again is vital in today’s business climate. Remember that statistic I gave you earlier? 93% of customers will search for and read online reviews and posts before buying a product or service. This is called third-party social proof. Surely this explains why PR is more effective than paid advertising. It’s all about the source(s) it is coming from… people are less skeptical when information is presented through PR channels like trusted digital platforms, tv, radio, print, newswire, etc. So now you might be wondering… Why aren’t all businesses doing this?

Mainly because they don’t know how!

Not knowing how to do something often comes with the overwhelm of learning how to do something. Which is why a lot of businesses will hire outside companies to handle their PR campaigns. 

As business owners we are led to believe that PR requires some magic formula that only these PR agencies have access to. Honestly, there are some really great companies out there that can help you develop and execute great PR (in fact, I can give you a few recommendations in the “Lee Recommends” section on my website). However, the biggest downside to hiring any outside firms is they can be very expensive and they may or may not deliver what they promise. 

Remember, just like any other business they are performing solely from a financial interest, and they will only have a superficial understanding of your business.
